Warm Waves

The first warm wave
Thaws and comforts,
Unclenching the trembling knot
Of winter’s chill:
A welcome relief.

The second, the third,
Unthaw the thawed,
Cooking the sun-warmed flesh
Then, smoking it to jerky:
A relentless intensity.
