In a mad dance,
She leaps and twirls
From foothold to foothold,
From task to task:
Speed and continuity
Defying gravity,
Defying mind.
A sudden wall,
An enforced pause –
A simple change
(The grace to sit)
As dramatic as a spell:
Turned to stone or
Glued in place
While the will to dance whirls
A handspan past her fingertips.
