One for you
And one for me:
Would that time and energy
Split so easily.

Shelter
So much
Heat and comfort,
Even safety or peace,
Lies within the bounds of
The simplest solution:
Escaping the frigid forces of
Relentless winds
Time Flies Like a Thrown Clock
Time flies like a thrown clock:
Swift. Then bloody.
Time stands still like the eye of a storm:
Calmly pulling strings.
Time turns back like a rotating door:
Only to move forward.
Time fades away like light to the blind:
In perception alone.
Eternal Sunshine
In the flickering sunshine,
The siding gleams,
Bright with fresh paint,
Hardly weathered.
Though bowed and broad,
The sturdy beams stand,
Strong and sure
In the midst of the grass,
Fresh and green.
Even under occasional clouds,
The flowers bloom
Without blessing of rain
While inside the walls weep,
And the storms rage.
For Sunshine Lost
Sorrow, not for the gray skies
But for sunshine lost,
Too soon, by choice,
Irreparably
Remembered with tears,
Immortalized with smiles:
Hoarded memories,
Precious treasures,
Too few, finite,
Irreplaceable,
Incomparable
A pain, never weakened,
But slowly callused,
Steadily distanced
To dullness
But for harsh moments
When the shield slips,
And the torment strikes true:
Too much, overwhelming,
Irreconcilable,
Incalculable,
Inescapable
In perpetuity
How: A Veterans Day Poem
How do you thank someone
That you’ve never met?
How do you convince them
That you’ll never forget?
How do you show respect
To those whose lives were lost?
How can you ever repay
Such a terrible cost?
How can you honor
The effort, pain, and fear?
How will you celebrate
Veteran’s Day this year?
I Never Thought
I never thought –
Never knew I should,
Never knew the need –
Until the moment
Had passed,
And the thought was wasted.
The awareness, the foresight,
Perception even, required was
Never mine,
And the lack left gaps – vulnerabilities –
Since struck with sufficient strength
To shatter, sending shockwaves
Forward, forever – for nothing.
Forming a fear like a cramped cage
And a need to think so fervent as to
Freeze the form, the future
Into immobility.
