To All A Good Night

A cacophony
Of voices and registers:
The last-minute rush.

Strict obligation,
Resented but carried out:
Gifts bought – time for fun.

Joyful excitement
Imagining their faces:
Can I buy them more?

Anticipation
Builds as the night approaches:
Santa is coming!

Slowly crowds disperse
To homes, trees, and family:
Christmas Eve at last.

Citysong

The grumble of cars,
Trains, planes, and people: a roar.
The birds are silent.

As Fall Ends

A gentle frost creeps
Over grasses, leaves, and trees:
Crystalline silence.

Never Again ‘Til Next Time

Counting down minutes
Waiting for a single breath:
Yeah. That’ll happen.

Fall Is Waning

The warm sun burns down
Through cold winds that chill the skin
No leaves for shelter

Vacation

One more workday left
Tension; Anticipation
No! I’m ready now!

Humidity

Unseen and suffocating
Pressing against us
Worse than heat, stealing our breaths
