Forward Motion

A step backward is a step forward
If you face the other way,
And the forward of tomorrow
May be the reverse of yesterday.
Or forward may be sideways
If you make a partial turn.
Yet the only way we move ahead
Is to choose and hope and learn.
For if I stop that motion,
All that I can stop is me.
And once I choose not to choose,
All those forwards cease to be.
