One Last: The Final Post of the twytte Writing Experiment

The final line, One last look, Before darkness falls. A chorus of indrawn breaths Ushering in the hushed silence Before hands meet Again and again As lights return, And the wall is broken. Slowly, chattering chaos Peters out into brisk efficiency Behind locked doors. Unseen, sans audience, They play their roles And tread the boards: Cleaning and resetting. Finally, they, too, Make their exits, Leaving the stage, Dimmed to a ghost’s glow But set and primed: Ready for tomorrow and The first look and The first line. Em T. Wytte Poem

The final post. That seems so surreal to write. Actually, it should be “the final post of the experiment.” Today, is the 1 year anniversary of the first post, so today is the day when the writing experiment comes to a close. I have officially posted a bit of new writing every day for a year. Yay! I did it!

Party time!

And how do you kick off the celebration at the end of a writing experiment? Write a poem! I can’t decide if that’s sadly predictable or simply in character. Regardless, I was trying to capture where the blog is now, and somehow it became theatre. I shouldn’t be surprised.

Anyway, thank you to everyone for reading!

I am going to take a wee vacation before I start posting here again (the cleaning and resetting stage, if you will). I expect to start again in July – assuming that I’ve figured out what I want to start again. I need a new experiment! If anyone has any suggestions or requests, I will gladly take them into consideration. At the moment, all I know for sure is that it will be writing-related.

For those of you who want to know how the novels end, so do I! (jk, kind of) Seriously, though, the novels will be continued. They will, however, be removed from the writing experiment rules. I may even give them their own sites so that if you want to read them but not poetry, you have somewhere to go. That’s one of the things I have to figure out. But one way or another, I will finish those, and I hope to get ahead enough that I can post them more consistently.

So wish me luck, thanks again, and stick around! There is definitely more to come.

Happy 11 Month Anniversary! 1 Left… And Then What?

It’s almost surreal to think that a writing experiment that started mostly on a whim is now a month away from completion. And realizing that I’ve written a new post (a new bit of fiction) every single day of those 11 months makes me want to take a nap in retrospect. At the same time, being a month away from completing a goal like that is pretty exciting. So “Woohoo! – what’s next?” What is twytte going to become when this year-long writing experiment is officially over?

blank signpost

Well, that didn’t help.

Hmmm… I’m not sure, but I have some ideas.

I’m pretty sure that the long-running stories (Deathwalker and Wind Town) are going to be taken off the experiment rules and move to a regular-but-non-weekly posting schedule. I’m thinking that they might be more readable in chapter-length chunks (or maybe half a chapter?) that are published on their own page once or twice a month. I know some people wait until that much is published before reading them anyway, so I thought that might work.

What do you think? As a reader, would that work for you?

As far as the rest of twytte, I’m pretty open to ideas.I think it will probably stay with daily postings, and I expect to keep writing poetry. I like the idea of keeping the experiment aspect, but what kind of writing experiment should be next? I might like to explore the short story and play parts more – I’ve fallen off of that in recent months as my schedule’s gotten crazier. But since my schedule’s only liable to get worse, that might not be possible.

So it’s a bit up in the air right now. If you would like a say in what the next writing experiment will be, post suggestions or comments in the comments section. Your input could change the future! (of twytte) So tell me – what parts of twytte do you like best?

Thanks again (and always) for reading!

For Once, It’s Not Entirely My Fault that the Novels Are Late

So… I made a questionable decision this weekend – I decided to update my computer’s operating system. *sigh* I’ve been putting it off for a while because I knew it would mean investing in a couple of updated programs, but GoogleChrome’s nagging finally got the best of me. Between making a carbon copy and the actual installation, it took most of the weekend, and it’s still not quite done: turns out that some of the updates have updates (srsly).

Now, I’m approaching the tail end of getting everything running smoothly (knock on wood), and, last but not least, I have to get the newer versions of a couple of programs. Word, for example.

While I get that set up, there will be no updates for Deathwalker or Wind Town. Sorry! I’ll do my best to get it done ASAP (for both our sakes). Until then, enjoy the poetry!

Wait for It…

            Hi!
You may have noticed that posting times have been odd or that the novels weren’t updated last week (or maybe not, which means you haven’t been reading, *cue depression*). Seriously, though, my schedule is going to be very strange this week, which mean the posting schedule is going to be even more erratic than usual. Like today, posts may be later in the day or even still count as today only because I posted them before I went to sleep (hey – that’s still my day).
When you’re waiting for a story to continue, I know that delays or uncertain schedules can be frustrating, so I’m going to *try* to do an extra update of Deathwalker and Wind Town (either a longer word count or an extra post) this week to make up for missing last week. I can’t promise that I will because, hey, crazy schedule, but I’m going to try.
Also, as we round the curve into the final few months of my writing challenge, does anyone have any requests for what this blog should be after the year’s challenge ends? I will definitely continue to post writing here, but I won’t have to stick to the same rules once I complete the full year. I could set up a new challenge, make the rules of this one less rigid, or any number of things. So if there’s anything specific you really like or want to see more of as the blog continues, this would be a good time to chime in.
Welp, that’s it. Thanks for your patience and for reading my random writing (yay, alliteration!). Now, it’s time to get back to work!

Another Pause (Novel-Wise)

I can’t seem to go very long without writing something about sleep, can I? I’d say it was a sign I need more, but I already knew that – and knowing doesn’t seem to help.
But I didn’t interrupt your day to talk about that.
No, I just wanted to let people know that the novels are going to pause this week. It’s the same old story (hmmm. Let’s do a little more worldbuilding before posting again). I expect to be plotting this weekend. If I succeed at weeding out the time, they should be updated again next week.
Cross your fingers, and thanks for your patience!

My Top 10 Posts: Happy 6th Month Anniversary!!!

I still can’t believe I wrote that right, but, yes, today marks the 6th month anniversary of starting this writing experiment. I am officially halfway through my year-long challenge of writing and posting something new every day. And what a trip it has been so far!

This blog has been through short stories, poems, bits of plays, ongoing novels, and even a webhost migration. Not to mention lots of new readers (thank you!!!). It seems only fitting to do something special, so why not celebrate with my 10 favorite posts from the 6 months so far?

I’ll tell you why not. That means I have to pick 10 favorite posts! (What? How?!)

Instead, I’ll say that I picked 10 of my favorite posts, and to be honest, the fact that it was hard to choose delights me. The fact that I still like and enjoy most of these posts months later means that I must be doing something right – however hard it makes picking out 10.

To make it easier, I removed the novels from the running (as an ongoing story, they get so much extra effort that it simply wouldn’t be fair to compare them to the rest!), and here are the 10 I finally decided on in no particular order:

10. “Not a What

There are days when I wish I’d actually said this in response to people. On the other hand, it always sounds a bit Dr. Seuss-ish to me. I may like the idea better than the poem.

9. “Can’t

I chose “Can’t” because I like the two angles it explores and the ambiguity between them. Plus, it’s a pretty universal issue, which I like in a poem. It’s also one of the earliest pieces from this experiment.

8. “Love

Speaking of universal issues, this is a requisite for poetry. If you’re writing poems, at least 1 has to be about love, right?

7. “Tangled Web

Spider-like, they sit and watch
Subtle, deceptive
Camouflaged
Hidden

6. “See the Headline: ’45 Minutes Stolen’

This is a bit lighter and fluffier than most of the other poems I’ve chosen, but it makes my literal mind happy. And it’s always fun to see evidence of my struggle against constantly rhyming.

5. “Or Not

A little more recent, this poem is another with an appealing ambiguity for universal issues. I wrote it in September, and I have a feeling I was facing some sort of decision at the time – but that’s a pretty safe guess (I was alive at the time, so…).

4. “Teatime

Although I’ve been choosing poems so far, “Teatime” is a little different. After months of promising to do a play or a bit of a play, this was the first to be posted. Even though it’s a better script for an online comic than an actual stage production, I enjoy it (although I have been told that my humor is a bit warped).

3. “The Fields

I love the idea of this poem. It’s a bit twisted, and as a writer, there’s little quite as gleeful for me as hiding coarse, inelegant meaning in poetic language.

2. “The People Paradox

The longer I live the truer this poem seems. I’m not really old enough to say that yet, but still…

1. “When IDEAS Attack

Finally, the post that started it all. You may not know this, but the very first post on this blog was an article (a slightly NSFW article at that). It’s a wonderful feeling for me to read it again 6 months later and enjoy it as much as I did when I first posted it on Weebly. I hope you enjoy it, too.

Here’s to another 6 months!

Time is short, but we go on
With words and thoughts and feelings.
I’ll keep on writing (please, forgive the slant rhyme)
And thanks so much for reading!

A Temporary Change in Schedule

Hi, everyone!

I’ll be working unusual hours this week due to the holiday, so I may have to write for twytte on my lunch break or something. At worst, I’ll end up doing it when I get home.

The long and the short of it is that if you log on at your usual time, don’t be surprised if I haven’t posted anything new yet. Don’t worry – the posts may be late, but they’ll get there. I promise!

Early Morning To Come

Hi, Everyone!

I have an unusually early morning coming up tomorrow (I should be in bed now, really). Long story short:

A post to come, slightly delayed
Or more than slightly, I’m afraid
Minutes and hours, the wait goes on
But the challenge will not be withdrawn.
Although not done by early light,
There’ll be more to read before the night.

Thanks for reading!

Post Delayed Due To Sleep

So… I just got in (much later than I expected to). I had planned to get up at the usual time, but I don’t see that happening now. That means that tomorrow’s (today’s?) update will likely come a few hours later than usual. Sorry about that, but I think we’ll all be better off if I don’t post on Deathwalker in my sleep.

Website Successfully Emigrated & Immigrated

I guess I shouldn’t discuss the site as if it were alive, but it’s not exactly a migrating bird either. Plus, webhosts are really beginning to remind me of different countries – prepare for the language change, and let’s hope you have the right visa.

Anyway, after altogether too many complications for my skill level, the site has been migrated to WordPress. Please, let me know if you come across any problems because of it. I may tinker with the theme more later, but for now, I decided that the rough style suits the rough draft idea of the project. Plus, it’s readable and met all my other qualifications (ever get to the point where you’re so sick of trying different themes that you’re simply grateful to find one that works?).

This experience has brought home how little I know about the code that makes all of these sites work. I am very grateful to have sites like this where I can post and create without needing to know all the intricate details. At the same time, I will be all too happy to get back to the writing part.

After all, that’s what this site is all about.
